Field Notes in the Theme Garden →
Apparently the theme was accepted into the Tumblr Theme Garden. You can download it much more easily there if you don’t plan on hosting any of the files yourself.

Should I make the title text smaller?
Some of you probably have long titles and I was just wondering if that would be something you’d want me to update. Update (5/9/09): I’ll probably set it up to be able to customize more of the theme than you can already when I update it next. I would have added custom colors, but black and white looks the best with the theme’s background image. Really, some of this stuff would...

Robert Ford is a Creep
Robert Ford: I can't believe I woke up this morning wondering if my Daddy would loan me his overcoat, and here it is just past midnight and I've already robbed a railroad train and I'm sitting in a rocking chair chatting with none other than Jesse James.
Jesse James: Yeah, it's a wonderful world.
Robert Ford: [reaches into his pocket and removes a newspaper clipping]
Robert Ford: Oh, what's this? I was real agitated this morning, wondering if I'd be able to tell you and Frank apart. So I had the clipping that described you both. You want me to read it?
Jesse James: Go on.
Robert Ford: Well, I gotta find... here. 'Jesse James, the youngest, has a face as smooth and innocent as a schoolgirl. The blue eyes, very clear and penetrating, are never at rest. His form is tall and graceful and capable of great endurance and great effort. Jesse is lighthearted, reckless, and devil-may-care. There is always a smile on his lips-'
Jesse James: All right, all right.
Robert Ford: Well, yeah. Then it's 'Frank, Frank, Frank... '.
Robert Ford: You know what I've got right next to my bed? The Train Robbers, or a story of the James Boys, by R.W. Stevens. Many's the night I've stayed up with my mouth opens and my eyes open, reading about your escapades in the Wide Awake Library.
Jesse James: They're all lies, you know.
Robert Ford: 'Course they are.

How to Change the Initial Following Display
Initially, this theme hides all of the tumblogs you follow except for the most recent 17 (I use that number because that’s how many fit into one row). However, once you hover over the section displaying your followers, the rest are displayed. If you would like to change the initial amount displayed, and it’s easy to do, than here is what you do. Open up the Theme tab in the...

Field Notes Brand Notebooks →
INSPIRED BY the vanishing subgenre of agricultural memo books, ornate pocket ledgers and the simple, unassuming beauty of a well-crafted grocery list, the Draplin Design Company, Portland, Oregon in conjunction with Coudal Partners of Chicago, Illinois bring you “FIELD NOTES” in hopes of offering, “An honest memo book, worth fillin’ up with GOOD INFORMATION.”

Customizing the Field Notes Theme
I didn’t just want to put a theme out there and expect that everyone was going to be able to customize it just how they wanted to. I also didn’t want to assume that most people just go right into adding widgets and links and don’t care how they end up looking on the site. For these reasons, I have created a couple of “How To’s” to help anybody who wants to add...

How to Add Custom Links
Update: It’s now much easier than this to add custom links to your theme. Just go to the appearance tab and add the link title and url to the text boxes. They’ll pop up automatically. This is probably the easiest thing you can do to add your own customization to this theme. All you need to do is follow the formula I’m going to give and you won’t have any problems adding...

How to Embed your Flickr Photo Stream
For people who aren’t used to working with HTML or customizing their Tumblr themes, don’t worry, I have tried to make embedding your Flickr photo stream into this theme as easy as possible. There are two ways of doing this. You’re going to need your Flickr ID for both of them, so let’s get that first. This is east to get a hold of, just go to idgetter and follow the one instruction...

How to Edit Your Blog Title's Font Size
This is one of the easiest things you can do. Look for a line of code near the top of the theme file on your Customize page that looks like this: <!-- Custom Styles --> <style type="text/css"> /* Blog Title Font Size */ #header h1 { font-size: 3em; } To change the size of your title’s text, just adjust the number for the font-size style. You can any size indicator you want...

Liz: Yeah, I gotta get one of those.
Jack: What?! Where do you invest your money, Lemon?
Liz: I've got like twelve grand in checking.
Jack: Are you an immigrant?
